“yet his heart was unyielding”

Sometimes we pig-headidly think we can outlast God in some area we’re sinning in. As examples:

“Pharaoh sent men to investigate and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.” (Ex 9:7) (After God sends the 5th plague: cattle dying, except those owned by the Israelites)

God talking to the Israelites: “‘Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, I struck them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,'” declares the LORD.” (Amos 4:9)

Whereas if we gave in, we would find good where now we only find harm.

-I think this is also a true principle in raising kids. I remember thinking I could outlast my parents to get what I wanted! And many kids think the same and do outlast their parents. I’ve seen my friends who are parents handle this tendancy of children really well. Even when it’s hard to stick to a system of discipline and it would be more comfortable or pleasant to give in, they stick to teaching the lesson they were teaching them – and it’s proven itself fruitful with time! I guess God knows how to treat us like the kids we are.
